Nanosolar is a startup based in Silicon that got heavy financed and already won contracts from Department of energy and DARPA. They has developed a proprietary NanoParticle ink that makes it possible to simply print CIGS (copper-indium-gallium-selenium) onto a thin polymer that does not involve the expensive silicon. Here’s some key point from their site:
- the world’s first printed thin-film solar cell in a commercial panel product;
- the world’s first thin-film solar cell with a low-cost back-contact capability;
- the world’s lowest-cost solar panel – which we believe will make us the first solar manufacturer capable of profitably selling solar panels at as little as $.99/Watt;

You’ll find that:
1.) Panels are only available for utility-sized (large scale) installations.
2.) Panel-film is only available to qualified ‘partners’.
3.) There is a 12-month backlog at this time for delivery.
My nephew works at the San Jose plant, they are scaling up to meet demand but it’ll take awhile to meet the demand.

At present I’m trying to work solar into the affordable housing market. The poor are the first to be affected by energy price. I feel if I can deliverr a truely affordable solar system. I have been following Nanosolar for a few years and i am anxious for the release of commercial solar film for a price suitable for the average person. Nanosolar has been backed up for a while, so I hope they begin to sell soon. I heard that they plan on releasing their first products commercially the first half of this year, so if i could be contacted when commercially sold panels are for sale, that would be excellent

One of our projects is going to be completly covered with solar panels (over 10,000 sqm = 120,000 sqf) to use as backup power generation. This is phase one and we have another 3 alike structures to cover.
